APS in pregnancy - treatment

• Corticosteroids do not improve pregnancy outcome in women with anti-phospholipid syndrome

• A combination of aspirin and heparin significantly improves live birth rates in women with recurrent miscarriage and anti-phospholipid syndrome

• Treatment with aspirin alone does not seem to improve live birth rates but there remains some controversy

• Women with anti-phospholipid syndrome are at increased risk of arterial and venous thrombosis

• The COCP is absolutely contra-indicated
