Risks

• Mortality rate 7-50%. 
 - 50% of deaths occur within 3 months of delivery

• Maternal hypoxia with fetal compromise

• Cardiac arrhythmias

• Venous and arterial thrombo-embolism - emboli from dilated left ventricle or fibrillating atrium
