• Macrosomia associated with increased risk of shoulder dystocia
• No role for oral hypoglycaemics in the management of IDDM in pregnancy
• Increased risk of neonatal hypoglycaemia due to hyperinsulinaemia
Increased risk of IUGR - associated with maternal hypertension + superimposed pre-eclampsia and nephropathy
• High risk labour / delivery - home delivery NOT appropriate
• Polycythaemia is a recognised neonatal complication
