Sickle cell - Hb C disease

1) Milder variant of HbSS
2) Associated with normal / near normal Hb levels

3) Risk of massive, sometimes fatal sickling crisis in pregnancy, especially in the puerparium

4) Sickling may be complicated by bone necrosis, fat embolism, painful crises and acute chest syndrome. 
Splenic sequestration, renal papillary necrosis and stroke also occurs
