Ectopic pregnancy - diagnosis
- Diagnostic laparoscopy has a false positive rate of 5% and a false negative rate of 3-4%
- There is some debate on the level of HCG at which a viable intra-uterine
gestation sac should be detectable on trans-vaginal ultrasound scan but a level of >1500miu/l is acceptable by most.
- Single serum progesterone measurements do not satisfactorily distinguish ectopic from intra-uterine pregnancies.
